Get started with a free interview. Our first meeting is designed to discover whether CairnKeepers is a good fit to tell your story. We ask questions to learn a little about you and the memory you want to preserve. We tell you about us: how we work, who we are, and what you can expect from us as a final product. We also let you know what we need from you to produce a commemorative keepsake you will treasure. If we can't meet your expectations, we tell you that up front.
This is your story. We are here to help you express it in a way that feels true and inspiring for you and your loved ones. Often our questions during that first meeting will allow us to come away with a creative concept that we can structure your story around. When you ask us to listen in, we reach past the facts to the heart of the story you want to tell. Our questions are designed to help you uncover the uniqueness of your event (or story or life legacy) from your perspective.
It is always our intention to discover and tell your story in precisely the way you want to remember it.
Following the first meeting, we provide a cost proposal including mutually agreed upon project parameters. With your vision in place, we determine the type of Cairn you want to create and provide written costs based on estimated production and the schedule required. After we agree on what you want, how much it will cost and when you will receive the finished product, it's time to get started.
Once you have approved and signed the budget agreement, your costs are set and will not vary unless you make substantial changes outside the agreement. Any additional costs will be approved before we proceed. A payment of one-third is due to start the project, one-third before final production, and the balance upon delivery.
So you've decided to build a Cairn. Whether your purpose is to capture a treasured event, to honor a milestone you want to mark, or to highlight a series of events to commemorate a lifetime (your own or that of a loved one), this is your story. We rely on you and other key participants to share details, feelings and perspectives that support your vision. It is always helpful to have a single person responsible for communicating the details, coordinating multiple interviews, and providing photographs and/or memorabilia to build your life Cairn. Together we set and agree on a production schedule that supports the complexity of the project and meets your desired deadline.
CairnKeepers will interview those contributing to building the Cairn. In addition to the individual contracting the project, we like to interview others close to the person being honored to get a full perspective. One-on-one interviews will likely be scheduled in your home or office for your ease and comfort. Subsequent questions can be answered by phone and/or email. Many brief interviews can take place via phone and email.
In our initial role as listeners, we uncover your vision to get to the heart of your story. Whether you’re celebrating an upcoming (or even past) event, honoring a person or achievement, or sharing a lifetime of experiences, we gather as many of your pertinent collectibles as possible before beginning the script to construct your Cairn.
Even if you only have dusty boxes of old family photos, we help select the ones that best tell your story. An intriguing digital presentation requires more images than you might imagine, so we ask for as many relevant images as you can provide and assist you in selecting those best suited for the project. For example, most projects require at least fifty (or better still, one hundred!) photos.
After reviewing your images, we let you know where the piece might be improved by additional photos. We also have a large library of images we can draw from for background visuals. Not sure your photos are good enough? We can help! We retouch and adjust each photograph to add contrast and create consistency.
Music selection is an important part of the design phase. Selecting personally meaningful music goes a long way toward setting a personalized tone for your digital Cairn. If you don't have specific selections, we are pleased to select appropriate songs based on your generalized personal likes. One client told us his late wife loved the "Out of Africa" soundtrack, and we were able to select just the right music to enhance her memorial video.
We use only legally purchased music, which can cost as little as $1.50 per song from iTunes. All our presentations are considered for personal use only, not to be shown for a fee, which allows you a wide scope of musical choices without issues of copyright infringement.
Once we have collected all available photos and identified any other subjects to be photographed, we integrate your contributions into a story that enhances the form you have selected. You choose the options you want, from a full written script with voiceover to a simpler presentation that includes a theme suited to your project with on-screen quotes and call-outs. Our approach depends on subject matter and budget, and will have been determined and agreed on during the budgeting phase. This is a creative phase for us, and the resulting concept will be presented for your approval before final production.
Once your stories are collected and the images are chosen, we submit an initial script for your review. This will include anecdotes, representative personal beliefs, and writings from the person being honored, if available and appropriate. Your input is encouraged at this stage to ensure that we include all the details and create a Cairn that reflects the spirit you want. All additions and changes to the script should be made before the audio track is started to prevent cost additions.
During this phase of production while the script is being created, we will work with you finalize musical selections to complement the feeling you want to express in your Cairn.
Now that the stories have been gathered, the images selected and scanned, the script approved, CairnKeepers goes into the studio to produce your Cairn. You will be given an opportunity to review a rough product before it is finalized. Since we make every effort to ask for and listen to your input along the way, significant changes at this point are generally minor. Once your digital project is completed, you will receive three DVD copies of your Cairn. Additional copies can be provided for a reasonable price.
We scan all images at high resolution, color-correct for consistency, and retouch to remove all possible scratches or blemishes on the original photos. All images are returned promptly.Remember, we use only legal music purchased from legitimate music sites in order to abide by copyright laws. (This means no YouTube presentations unless we plan for that in advance and use only appropriate music legal for public use.)
If you choose a book Cairn, though fewer images are required, we recommend selecting the highest quality photographs available to create an artistic memoir you can proudly share with friends and family.
